Last night, to M's dismay, R went to bed clutching the vacuum cleaner. Did this mean she had lost his affections to a vibrating household appliance? To her relief, he was merely trying to hoover up insects with it - well, that's his story!!! We'd had an invasion of small black moths and R had been running around all evening trying to catch them with the vacuum cleaner - quite a sight!
He was still at it this morning! It was a lovely still morning and we had slept in a bit - then off to Pierreponts for a wonderful breakfast. M had a very elegant version of the "Full English" with the home-made baked beans and R had his usual boiled eggs and Marmite soldiers. Delicious!
After breakfast, M went off to Goring railway station to catch the train home to Reigate. She was in luck because a train arrived just as she got to the station and then at Reading, she made the connection in just a few minutes. However at Reigate, her luck ran out as she missed the bus by one minute, so she walked home.
R took MM down river on his own and had good luck with the three locks - going straight into each one without having to wait or tie up.
Almost every boat on the river and many houses on the riverbank are bedecked with flags and bunting. Everyone seems to be getting into the Jubilee spirit!
Spring is in the air (unfortunately so is the rain!!).
R made it to Reading Marina in under three hours. Tied MM up and secured her as she will stay here for three nights (so there will not be any diary entry until Tuesday).
Later today we will both meet up in London to stay overnight with Charles, Emma and Penny and then ten of us are getting together in Battersea Park tomorrow for the big fair and the River Pageant. Just hope that the rain that is forecast for tonight is over before the festivities start tomorrow morning.
God Save the Queen!!
Today: 10 miles, 3 locks and 2.9 hours
Trip: 67 miles, 27 locks and 30.2 hours (173.5 total)
