Friday 13th and Saturday 14th September 2024 at Moore.
Friday morning was special. M had recently made contact with Mary, a friend from their school days. They had arranged to meet at Kickback Coffee. Mary was coming from Stockport so M sat outside Kickback to look out for her. She arrived at 10am and it was the first time that they had seen each other for 58 years! The last time had been in 1966 in their A-level years at school. A really enjoyable morning ensued as the two friends caught up with the many years since they last met. There was more than a little laughter at recollections over some of the antics they had got up to at school!
In celebration of such a unique event, Toby at Kickback made M a very special hot chocolate!
Later in the morning, we walked with Mary back towards the station for her to catch her train home. M and R went off to Dunelm in search of a new bathroom pedal bin but couldn't find one in the right colour so that will have to wait!
Back at MM, we were ready to unmoor from the railings and cruise the few miles to Lymm where we later moored up for the night.
On Saturday morning, after running the washing machine and pegging out the washing, we went for breakfast to the excellent Coffee House in Lymm, which fully met our expectations from our last visit. R spent the rest of the morning putting a remote Rev Counter on MM. The normal Rev Counter is on the door of the electric cupboard but the steerer cannot see it from the tiller. This new Counter works off the prop shaft, not the engine, and faces the steerer, so it is therefore much easier to see without leaving the tiller. (M says she didnt understand any of that!!).
After we set off, we treated ourselves to an ice cream as a reward. It may be the last of the season unless the weather gets warmer. At the moment, the weather is really lovely with lots of sunshine but the wind is cold.
At Moore, a couple of miles north of Preston Tunnel, we moored up for the night and, as R reversed the engine to stop at the mooring, we picked up a very large mass of something long and rubbery that looks as if it ought once to have been alive and dangerous! Luckily, it came off the prop quite easily.
The evening remained sunny but cool. The forecast for tomorrow is not as good. We shall see.
We were treated to a magnificent sunset.
Later the nearly full moon appeared on the horizon in the east, peeking through the clouds.
Today: 7 miles, 0 locks and 3.3 hours.
Trip: 246 miles, 99 locks and 124.9 hours.
