Back to the Centre of Newbury

Thursday 6th September, 2012 in Newbury.
We returned to MM after three happy days back home, and celebrating R's birthday in Oxted's Pizza Express with Elle, Erika and Dan. We were in need of the usual "few bits," so cruised back into the centre of Newbury and moored up again by Victoria Park in the sunshine.
We walked up to M&S for our groceries and then staggered back laden with our purchases through Victoria Park with its lovely ornate bandstand.
We spent a happy afternoon doing odd jobs. R spent most of the time doing some work for TME while M planted the pansies that she had brought with her from Reigate to replace the geraniums in the "coal scuttle" on the roof. A passer-by on the towpath remarked with amusement that gardening chores are never-ending, even on a narrowboat.
R has acquired a DVD of the first and second series of "Shaun the Sheep," (not to forget "Bitzer" the poor befuddled canine) so we had a happy evening watching five episodes of ovine hilarity before bedtime.
Today: 1 mile, 1 lock and 0.8 hours.
Trip: 251 miles, 258 locks and 212.5 hours (363.6 total).
