Sunday 11th October, 2015 at Willoughby.
The early morning colours at Braunston were spectacular and the weather continues to be brilliant!
We moved out of the marina yesterday and moored up on the canal towpath outside (no power - but it's free). MM is the first boat on the right.
We had planned a quiet day today - well, that is, until there was a tap at the window, which turned out to be Sharon and Clinton from nb "Tacet". We had met them on the Yorkshire side of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in the summer and we liked them a lot. We had waved goodbye to them in Leeds and then, by chance, met up with them again north of Atherstone last week on the 1st October. They too were on their way down to Braunston so we arranged to meet them last Friday for a drink at the Plough Inn in Braunston village, which we did - and a great evening it was too!
Tacet was moored up just west of Braunston and they had walked in with their friends, Phil and Louise from Ipswich. They all came aboard for tea and chocolate cake, and we had a really fun afternoon with lots and lots of laughter.
Soon after they departed, we set off towards Willoughby, but we hadn't seen the last of them yet! We passed them at their mooring just west of Braunston on our way. Clinton was waving from the bow and Sharon was photographing us from beside their boat. We hope very much that we can stay in touch and see them again in the future.
We looked rather wistfully back towards Braunston disappearing behind us, we are very fond of the area. Maybe we will come back here again next year. Who knows?
Our mooring tonight at Willoughby is close to the home of Jan, the falconer from Mary Arden's Farm. We got to know Jan quite well during our volunteering at MAF this summer and like him very much.
As the sun went down, we were treated to a magnificent sunset, the whole sky seemed to be on fire.
Imagine our delight when Jan arrived straight from MAF and spent a couple of hours with us on board catching up. It was so nice to see him again.
Today: 2 miles, 0 locks and 2.9 hours.
Trip: 442 miles, 320 locks and 335.1 hours.
It was lovely to see you both again and to catch up. Keep in touch
