Saturday 8th June 2019 in Braunston.
Braunston is bad news for our waistlines! It's so hard to resist the lure of breakfast at the "Gongoozlers' Rest". One has to admire the ladies who work here, there were four of them manoevering round each other in their minute galley.
Adrian, who was coming up to Daventry for the weekend to meet up with Scott and his former school friend Andy, came by the marina and drove us into Daventry, where we met up with Scott, Andy and Andy's wife, Michelle.
Scott had a busy time as he was chairman of the organisers of the Daventry Motorbike Festival, which was held today. This is the ninth year for the Festival, which has grown to be a major local event. Unfortunately, it poured with rain all morning so, this morning, they "only" had about 100 motor bikes in the grand parade ride-in to the centre of the town (last year they had 500!).
By the time we arrived, the weather had improved but the motorbikes, of all kinds, were beginning to disperse.
Adrian, Andy and Michelle repaired to the Saracen's Head (now a modern Wetherspoon's pub) while Scott finished with his official duties (re-opening the roads, which had been closed all day) and M and R went for a "few bits" in Waitrose (M) and Costa (R).
We passed this building, which used to be the solicitors' office where M was happily employed until she moved back to Reigate in 1988; she also worked in Daventry's Waitrose for a good while.
Sheaf Street is one of the town's more attractive streets, which was pedestrianised even before M left Daventry.
Even the High Street looked good with all its bunting. Unusually, it was almost deserted as Scott was still in the process of re-opening it to traffic.
When Scott had finished and we had all joined the others in the pub for a very welcome drink, we all made our way back to Scott's house; where Paula was waiting with more drinks and a massive feast.
Quite soon, the men had all congregated in the garage (man cave), where Scott keeps his lovely vintage Hesketh motorbike, one of only 120 made by the factory before Lord Hesketh went bankrupt.
This was a very special and happy occasion as it was the day of the "DavLads" reunion. Scott and Andy had not seen each other for over 25 years and it had been equally as long since all three of the "Lads" were together. This picture was take in 1992, 27 years ago.
There was much laughter and many memories of the past but, eventually, M managed to get the three of them to stand still long enough for a new "official" photograph.
Much has changed, but they still have a drink in their hands!
However, "Peanut", Scott and Paula's hound, decided that he should be in the picture too.
Dinner, thanks to Paula, followed and a wonderful meal it was with a seemingly endless supply of food, drink, memories and laughter. Even "Peanut" got into the act for dessert.
The perfect way to round off a wonderful day.
Today: MM had a rest.
