Breakfast at Pierreponts and a visit from President Biden?

Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th June 2021 in Windsor.

One of our favourite places to eat is Pierreponts in Goring, previously owned and operated by Caroline, who now owns the "Goring Grocer" Deli. Breakfast at Pierreponts is legendary - and a must!. Would it still live up to Caroline's standards? It did!

R then walked to Goring Station with M, who was nipping home for the night. After seeing her off on the train (and doing a little jig of joy?!), R then returned to MM and the two boats carried on down the Thames.

On the train, M passed St. Catherine's Lock on the Wey, which R featured on his model railway and which we expect to visit in a few days.

When she got home, M was astonished to find that the tidy lawn that she had left a couple of weeks before had become a wild flower meadow full of buttercups, daisies, clover and tall grasses over a foot high. Ironically, the wild bit at the top of the garden, intended to become a wild flower garden, hadn't grown much at all!

The two boats moored up in Henley for the night on Henley Reach and then continued down to the Thames. Next morning, M took an early train involving a rather convoluted journey to Marlow. When the boats reached Marlow, R moored up and walked to the station to pick up M while Mel and Peter on Inkling went ahead to find water at the next lock. Just before M arrived in Marlow, she caught sight of Inkling from the train sailing alone down the Thames. They found water and we soon caught them up because the water pressure was so low that it took them a long time to fill up.

Passing under the M4, we saw these workers suspended under the bridge - it looked very precarious but they waved cheerily to us.

We found excellent moorings on Windsor Island and within minutes a young lady appeared to take our money for the overnight stay!
This strange amphibious DUKW was taking tourists up and down the river. It looked fun!
Only our second ice cream of the trip, mainly because so many kiosks are still closed everywhere.
Suddenly a fleet of helicopters flew over - the President's US Marine One escorted by two RAF attack helicopters, a press helicopter and a police helicopter. Biden passing overhead from Windsor Castle after visiting HM?

We were rewarded with yet another lovely sunset.

Two Days: 38 miles, 13 locks and 13.4 hours.

Trip: 192 miles, 87 locks and 81.9 hours.
