Tuesday 1st June 2021 near Cropredy.
A beautiful sunrise heralded another lovely day.
This willow tree made a loving heart.Sadly, HS2 will destroy the peace of this area too. In the 1980s, the construction of the M40 wreaked havoc in the same way. In the words of Pearson's Canal Guides, "into this exquisite landscape, the M40 intrudes like a kick in the groin." The same applies to HS2 and with absolutely no financial justification.A lovely surprise in the Claydon Lock Flight. We rounded the corner to find Judith and John on "Rufford" coming the other way. Fortunately there was space for all three boats to moor up and we stopped for a cup of tea (courtesy of Judith) and chocolate biscuits (thanks to M). It was marvellous to see them again.
As we left, R got something round the propellor, which turned out to be a very damaged bicycle inner tube!
The voluteer lock keeper at the bottom lock has a little "lengthsman's" hut.
Tonight's mooring was opposite Cropredy Marina, which has doubled in size since our last visit.
We celebrated with a relaxing drink in the evening sunshine.
Today: 11 miles, 8 locks and 5.4 hours.
Trip: 94 miles, 41 locks and 41.6 hours.
