Sunday 22nd May 2022 in Gargrave.
With Richard, Annette and nb "Carleton" happily moored up in Kildwick, we all decided to have a relaxing day off on Sunday.
A few hundred yards from MM's mooring in Gargrave is the "Dalesman Café Tea Rooms".
Over the last few days, we have been in several times and, this morning, we decided to go there for their excellent breakfast. What a treat!
The Café is a blast from the past with shelf after shelf of every sweet imaginable, and all in glass jars just as we remember sweet shops from our youth.
The staff are only too happy to pour sweets from a jar on to the old fashioned weighing scales and thence in to paper bags.
In the corner is a telephone box adorned with the image of "Noddy". It is actually a fridge with cold drinks for the many cyclists and walkers who drop by!
The Café is full of an incredible collection of things from the past. It even has a small room at the back called the "Garden Shed" that is stuffed with all sorts of memorabilia once found in garden sheds!.
The staff are a delight and the food is excellent, whether you are after a quick drink or a full meal. Don't be fooled by the notice on the outside, they are very friendly!
In summary, if you are ever in Gargrave, do drop in to the Dalesman and you will be sure of a friendly welcome and great food and drink!
