Can't believe that it is August Already!

Thursday 1st August 2024 in Leigh.

Harley and Shelley set off on Lazy Bee before us as Shelley needs to see if she can find a dentist in Leigh (nothing too serious).

We followed on behind a bit later and dropped into Boothstown Marina for water. We were greeted by Les and Dave who confirmed that we can leave MM there at the end of August when we have to go up to help Jenni in Huddersfield. The guys at Boothstown are great, always so welcoming and helpful.

Heading on towards Leigh, there are several massive old mills next to the canal. Difficult to get a representative photograph as they are so big. This is less than half of this one mill alone. It's very pleasing to see so many of these handsome old mills still standing and in current use, albeit for different purposes nowadays.

At Leigh, the Bridgewater Canal comes to an end and we are back on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

We moored outside the "Waterside Inn" and were very pleased to see that it has re-opened, not least because it is a Grade II listed building.

When we moored here in June 2022, it had recently closed and it was still closed last year. We went inside to take a look and they have done a really good job of revitalising it. We wish them luck as it is a lovely venue.

From the Waterside Inn terrace, we photographed Lazy Bee on the other side of the canal. Shelley and Harley had left a space for MM behind Lazy Bee, but somebody nabbed it just as we were arriving. Rats! It was in the shade too!!

Our neighbours from home are on holiday in the Derbyshire Dales and came across this little village with an unusual line in bunting; there were also lines of knickers and men's boxer shorts! Who ever said that the English are excentric?

Today: 5 miles, 0 locks and 1.7 hours.

Trip: 135 miles, 71 locks and 68.6 hours.
