More Friends and More Food!

Thursday 6th June, 2013 at Braunston.
The sun is out again, which is lovely, but the wind is still cold, so yet again we are wearing multiple layers!
We had no set plans for the day, just to relax and take it easy.
After breakfast and the usual housework, we set off to the village in search of (a) a mobile signal; and, (b) second breakfast. We were only successful with (b)! We walked up to the village through the field opposite; it is full of buttercups. There are two horses in the field and one of them was having a good scratch as we approached.
We stopped to talk to the two horses, who then followed us almost like Monty Roberts' "join-up".

The little tearoom that we visited yesterday afternoon has a sign which reads "Enter as strangers, leave as friends". We have certainly found that to be the case. Amanda, the owner, greeted us like long lost friends.
Eventually, we made our way back to MM and decided that we should go for a walk to burn off the excess cakes, crumpets and second breakfasts that we have enjoyed over the last couple of days. So we set off briskly along the towpath with the intention of going up over the hill above Braunston Tunnel to admire the views.  Just as we were leaving, nb "President" came out of the marina with its butty "Kildare" to move to a different berth in another part of the marina.
"President " is a famous vintage steam driven boat and it made a lovely sight as it chugged along sounding and smelling just like a steam train.
As we approached the tunnel mouth along the towpath, M's phone suddenly picked up a signal and, in the same instant, she received a call from her dear friend and former yoga teacher, Sheila from Daventry. We had been trying to contact Sheila all week.  It turned out that she and her daughter Margaret were in Braunston in the tea-room that we had recently left!
The tea room normally closed at three, and it was after that already, but Amanda had very kindly said she would stay open especially for us. By this time we were a good twenty minutes away, so we walked even more briskly back into the village and had tea all over again!
It was wonderful to see Sheila and Margaret again, both of them looking very well. After a super cream tea (and yet more cake!), they both came back to MM for a while. Sheila knows the Mikron Theatre, which is performing here next Thursday (the day we are planning to come back) and so we are hoping that they will be able to join us that evening to see "Don't Shoot the Messenger", which is one of the Mikron's current productions all about the early days of the postal service.
So, another sunny, happy day in this idyllic location and, best of all, more "Many Meetings".
Tomorrow, we shall put MM into the marina here and go home for a few days. So watch this space...
