Friday 10th August, 2012 at the Caen Hill Marina.
A glorious morning, still and quiet with an azure sky. We’re
very reluctant to go home today!!
We had an early breakfast, and an early start so that we
don’t have to rush when we get to the marina. We went up through the three locks with
the hire boat nb “Fox Terrier.” All the hire boats from Foxhangers have “Fox”
in their name somewhere; it took us a while to work out why one was nb "Glacier Fox"! The family aboard “Fox Terrier” were at the end of
their week and they all seemed to be hooked on life in the slow lane on the
canals. We can understand that!
Caen Hill Marina is brand new, it actually opened on
October 15th last year, so it's five days younger than MM! Cara
and Rob, the owners, were very friendly and helpful and we were soon moored up
and hooked up for power. It is an excellent marina, with first-class facilities.
The taxi came to pick us up at 2:00pm, so we had a quiet
couple of hours to get ready and to have lunch.
It was quite scary driving in the taxi to Westbury at 50mph and then flying along in the train at 100mph; we're just not used to such speed! It took us seven weeks to get from Reading to Bath and just forty-five minutes to get back on the train!!
We will be back on board on Tuesday - so watch this space!!
Today: 2 miles, 3 locks and 1.9 hours.
Trip: 203 miles, 168 locks and 167.1 hours (317.1 total).
