Yes, still here in the middle of Reading by the Oscar Wilde Walk. We were hoping to be out on to the Thames and on our way to Oxford, but the Thames is still "Red Boarded" due to the recent heavy rain, so all movement on the river is very strongly discouraged.
M came back from Reigate mid-morning and R walked up to the station to meet her. M was a little sad that the choir, for which she has been the Secretary for over 20 years, has finally come to an end. It's not all bad though, because last night was the first meeting of the "new" choir formed from the amalgamation of the two former choirs - so last night was one of those happy/sad occasions.
R had heard about a wonderful new book called "Counting Our Blessings" containing many letters written by the late Queen Mother throughout her life; so he bought it for M to cheer her up. As the rain had by now set in for the day, M spent a happy afternoon dipping into her new book.
We have now passed several days moored up next to Reading Gaol and the Oscar Wilde Walk. There is a lovely wrought-iron gate at the entrance with the image of OW etched into it.
And beside it there is a fence with his poem, written after he was released. We found all the words very poignant.
I was so long a prisoner,
That though I am now free,
The thought that I serve some sentence
Is so ingrained in me
That I still wait for a warder
To come and turn the key.
Today: Just 2.9 hours to charge the batteries.
