A Trip Home and then a Closed River.

Monday 5th to Wednesday 7th July 2021 in Godalming.

No visitors on Monday, so we both took the bus home for the day. R came back on the bus in the evening but M stayed in Reigate to go to her Monday evening "spin" class and came back on the bus on Tuesday morning.

When M arrived back, we set off back south to Godalming. M finally got a good photograph of the Reigate to Guildford train passing St Catherine's Lock!

St Catherine's Lock has become a firm favourite on account of its pretty setting.

The rain over the last few days has caused the River Wey to rise about 2 inches (50mm). At Shalford, there is a very low bridge, which we can normally get under with a couple of inches to spare. Today it was very tight. Our broadband aerial is the highest fixed point on MM and today it only just passed between  two rivets on the bridge. If it had hit either rivet, it would have been knocked off!

On Wednesday, we were looking forward to a visit from Dick and Judy. We were delighted when Jane also said she could visit.

Unfortunately, the River Wey continued to rise after the recent rain and we awoke on Wednesday to find that the National Trust had closed the river and we were not allowed to move.

Jane arrived mid morning and Dick and Judy just before lunch. We had a wonderful three course lunch and a jolly good time together and nobody seemed to mind that we were unable to move MM. M was so busy providing a such a great lunch that she forgot to take any photographs!

Later in the evening, after everyone had left, we heard that the river had gone down enough for the National Trust to re-open it. Hopefully that means that we will be able to go out for a cruise tomorrow.

Tuesday: 3 miles, 3 locks and 3.4 hours (inc. power).

Trip: 255 miles, 133 locks and 124.6 hours.
