Sunday 9th June 2024 back to Aston.
Debbie and George are brand new to narrowboating but were keen to try a day with us. They walked down the towpath from their house close to the canal in Trentham and we set off in welcome sunshine.
George had a go on the tiller and proved to be a natural at steering MM. He said that he was very used to backing up HGVs, so pushing the tiller one way to go the other was second nature to him!
Just south of Meaford locks we stopped for lunch.
We had to do 9 locks to get back to Aston and George did a geat job. He clearly understood the principles and M was able to relax and leave him to enjoy himself.
Tea and cake were his reward! The ginger cake was from Mulllins, in Dorking. It went down a treat!
Once back at Aston, we drove back in to Stone and had an early dinner together at the Italian restaurant, which is always reliable and never disappoints. Then we drove them back to their house in Trentham and admired their new kitchen, which is lovely.
A great day all round. We so enjoyed Debbie and George's company.
Today: 5 miles, 9 locks and 3.3 hours.
Trip: 10 miles, 18 locks and 8.7 hours.
