Monday 10th June 2024 at Weston-upon-Trent.
Today is really the start of our summer cruise. At last! Hooray! Having filled with water, we backed out of our mooring space at Aston.
The lock at Etruria is still closed, so we are going down to Great Haywood Junction, south west along the Staffs & Worcs canal to Autherley Junction and then north on the Shropshire Union and finally east on the Middlewich Arm - all this to get to the north!
M photographed the clock at just after 11:00am as we set off with a cheery wave to Nick, the Moorings Manager and a promise to return in October.
It was a pleasnt cruise down to Weston-upon-Trent, where we moored at one of our favourite places alongside the house of our friends Bridgett and Peter.
Their garden, as ever, was a picture. When they heard that we were coming their way, they very kindly invited us to dinner and, as always, we had a splendid evening together with good food, great wine and wonderful company.
It is hard to believe that it is ten years since we first had the good fortune to meet them over their garden gate while admiring their beautiful garden, and they have been such good friends ever since.
Today: 5 miles, 1 lock and 1.9 hours.
Trip: 15 miles, 19 locks and 10.6 hours.
Enjoying following your journey .. Harry even missing the football!
